The World

Alberta:
A breezy port city, Alberta is a center for importing and exporting goods between lands. It's the home of the Merchant guild, although the streets are quieter than you'd imagine. Most Merchants move off to other larger cities to expand and sell their wares, given Alberta already does quite well for itself with its shipping business. Finally, it's also a starting point for adventurers looking to make their way to the cities of: Amatsu, Louyang, Ayothaya, Moscovia, Brasilis, as well as Turtle Island.

Recently, there have been mentions of a ship carrying treasure that sunk off the city's coast. Rumor has it there is an old fisherman who knows of the exact location, he may be bribed into taking adventurers there for a price!

Aldebaran:
A seemingly peaceful town, home to the Alchemist Guild. It boasts pretty little buildings, windmills, and classic stonework bridges over crystal clear waterways that are harnessed to supply the city with power. It's a scenic little place surrounded by rather harsh lands of rock, and barren fields. If you continue to the north, you'll find the larger cities of: Juno, Einbroch, and Lighthalzen.

Near one of the canals, you'll find a rather jolly, rotund old man who speaks of a little snowy village of holiday cheer...

The town is centered around a small old clock tower, but few are allowed to enter. Inside, adventurers will find basement level upon basement level of challenging monsters and demons. Most of which are of a magical nature, and some that have strong resistance to all but certain elements. It goes down by nine levels, so it's outward appearance is quite deceiving.

To the south there is however, a forest. But finding your way through it safely is a challenge, and very few have made it far without getting completely turned around. If you don't get lost, chances are the often aggressive critters will end your visit instead.

Amatsu:
The story of this land was born across the tides as a sailor from Alberta washed up on shore after his ship ran into stormy weather. Amatsu is a beautiful, exotic land full of cherry blossom covered trees, rolling hills, and streets lined with small straw huts line the streets. The eastern corner of the city boasts an elegant lakeside castle, with valuables of ancient books and artifacts stowed safely inside. Amatsu has since become one of the kingdom's best trading partners, and the people are on friendly terms with the king in Prontera.

Deep inside the lakeside castle, there are rumors of an entrance to a befuddling tatami floored maze. Home to a multitude of demonic beings, there are warriors wielding old shotguns, beautiful but deceiving maidens, and wandering undead shinobi that are out for the blood of trespassers. Even if you should make it through to the end of the maze, you wont find any reprieve as you find a forest full of other nasty surprises, leading all the way to an underground shrine that is home to the roaming spirit of a samurai...

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: What is all this?
A: Myths of Midgard is a panfandom AU musebox game based on the world of Ragnarok Online. It will loosely follow the game's story line with monthly/bimonthly events based on the various episodes.

Q: Do I have to play Ragnarok Online to RP here?
A: Nope, no prior experience is required! The setting isn't strict and the story line is going to be loosely taken from the various episodes of the game. There will be a game guide to get an idea of what you're in for, and we're always happy to help you find your feet and work with you!

Q: I have a friend who wants to join in, and we totally have an idea for our characters. Can they join?
A: Yep! It's going to be an invite only musebox game though, so just let us know who they are before hand so we can accept their request to join the community.

Q: What kind of characters can I drop in here, and are OC's welcome?
A: You can play any character from any canon you like. We even allow minor characters with little canon and OC's! As long as you can develop an interesting back story, and keep their personality true to their canon were happy to have you. All we ask is you have a HMD to keep your characters personality IC.

Q: How do you handle au versions of a character?
A: We're already an AU so an AU within an AU sounds weird \O_0/ . However As mentioned above, this world is known to have its clones and its robotic creatures so another version of a character running around is actually a real possibility. If you can imagine it, and can work out a reason for it, it can be!

Q: Do my characters have to be human?
A: Chances are your character will be human, but if you can write a believable history/story/reason for your character to be part demon/animal/android what have you, then go for it. The world of ragnarok is known to have humanoid monsters, demons, clones, and even robotic beings.

Q: Can my character have their abilities from canon?
A: Not exactly, it will depend. In the world of Ragnarok there are set job classes that have varying kinds of skills specific to them. So you're sure to find something that fits, and there is a guide! Also we're always available to answer questions and find ways to make things work! As mentioned above, we're going to be pretty laid back and creativity is a beautiful thing~!

Q: If my character dies, what happens to them?
A: You get respawned/resurrected in a safer area within 24 hours. You will be a fair bit weaker for the first day however, and still have less lethal versions of your wounds until you find a healer or you recover naturally. (Find a high priest/priest/acolyte and beg for heals, I dare you)

Q: Is there any way to be revived sooner?
A: Raising the dead is a talent that the healer class has. However their spells and methods will have varying levels of success depending on how skilled they are. And you'll have to stay out of trouble for a while because you'll have zero energy to perform what ever skills your known to for the 24 hours, unless you can get your hands on a recovery item. You'll be able to do little things after the first few hours, but that could drain you and risk getting yourself sent back to square one recovery-wise. But we all know, desperate times...

Q: The job class guilds exist, can player run guilds exist?
A: Yep! If you and your friends want to start a guild with particular goals/personal plots in mind, go for it. Come up with a creative name, titles, and a crest! There may even be an event focusing on guilds in the future depending on a few things!

Q: Speaking of events, what kind of events are there planned?
A: Monthly or bimonthly the will be a large group post quest. A request from the king to go explore an old ruin, check out some new lands that have appeared, or bring back some great treasure. There will also be festivals, celebrations and tournaments held in various cities depending on the month and what's going on. ...Oh and before I forget, did I mention there are hoards of monsters waiting to organize and attack random cities. Not to mention those great treasures are usually guarded by some over powered boss monsters. Giant goats with scythes, dragons, and even giant badass reindeer things, certainly nothing you great adventurers can't handle... right? 8D

The Rules

Being a private musebox game, there are very few rules to follow here. More like guidelines and reminders.

1. Treat your fellow rp'ers as you would want them to treat you.
Drama and disrespect towards others will not be tolerated. This game is for fun, and hardly meant to be taken seriously. Your characters drama stays in character. Please remember that things that happen IC do not mean you should take offense or assume the player has this attitude themself. We're all friends here, and it should remain that way. However if you have a problem ooc, try to talk it out maturely.

2. No Godmoding/Metagaming.
This is a simple rule. Basically OOC Knowledge stays ooc. This means that if your character hasn't learned something about another character 'In Character' then they wont know it 'In Character' unless it's discussed between the muns and decided on. Also, you can't control another persons character without the muns permission. Finally, your character cannot land a blow unless you've got the other muns permission. A mun must choose for their character to be hit/wounded. That of course, definitely doesn't give any mun the right to choose that all attacks/spells don't hit/have any effect.

3. HMD's in your character page are a requirement.
We don't have an AC here because this is all for fun. But out of respect for other players who are fans of the canon, you should be open to possible critique on a character if their personality slides into a OOC place. If your character is an OC, it would still be nice for people to have a place to comment.

4. Keep the adult fun times under lock and key please.
We understand that sex is a thing that can come up in an RP, a lot of our characters are consenting adults. Not to mention, RO has its own marriage system and honeymoon location /o/... But not everyone wants to have it right in front of them. So out of respect, please keep it private on your journal. You can have everything lead up to it and allude to the fact that yup they're totally heading that way. Once you get to the intimate stuff/smut, it's time to take it private. Also, your character must be an actual adult in-game.

5. No matter how much porings remind you of jello, they are not edible. Please don't try to eat them.

The Story

Myths of Midgard

Welcome to a land of magic and beauty, where a king rules during a time of unstable, shaky peace following a devastating war between humankind and the inhuman.

A peace that only fools would believe will last.

For a day would - no, has come where the shaky balance has been broken and the tides of chaos spill throughout the kingdom of Rune Midgard.

After a thousand years has passed, most have forgotten the horrors that once wreaked havoc on their world. Memories of demonkind, monsters, and the stuff of legends are all but forgotten. Remembered only in the songs and tales of bard's, or among the pages of lore secreted away by the lands historian's.

Stories told by the fireside in the common room of an inn, bed time tales to keep little ones in check.

That's all they were.

Until now.

It started off with whispered rumors of travelers being attacked on the road, and steadily grew in validity as monster sightings were made by those wandering along the outskirts of town.

Not even the king or his men could keep the situation quiet after an expedition was sent out to the old ruins of Glast Heim.

His goal to prove that the demons and their spawn hadn't returned, that the old truce was still being observed and there was nothing to fear turned quickly to proof that things had changed. The kingdom wasn't as safe as it once was... The first group of knights never returned, and of the second sent out to discover the fate of the first, only one man returned.

He only survived long enough to confirm the kings worst fears.

Their treasured peace was ended, war was upon them.

Word spread quickly, either via housewife gossip or along the chains running from guild to guild throughout the kingdom. From the secretive assassins hidden away in the desert outside Morroc, to the scholarly school of mages in Geffen. Where once training and recruiting was more of an honored tradition and a way to ensure the guild survived, now became necessity. The purpose for these groups was quickly realized once more, the time to prove their worth to the world was once again upon them.

Dear Midgardians, the time to act is now upon you.

Go forth and find your place in the world.

Be it a quest for honor, knowledge, salvation, or the breaking of everything.

The path is set out infront of you, shape it as fate allows.

Myths of Midgard is a panfandom AU musebox game based on the world of Ragnarok Online. It will loosely follow the game's story line with monthly/bimonthly events based on the various episodes.

Those invited are free to throw their chosen character into the world with the only stipulation being that you keep a characters personality true to their canon personality. Their history and back story can be altered to fit the world however you like. Headcanoning a character's personality is also okay if they don't have much background/canon screen time. As long as you have something to base this off of, and some founding trait from their canon to keep them true to, you're free to play them.
